Exhibition by John-Paul Gibbs and Mick Hockney  4.10.08 - 11.10.08

JP Gibbs

Featuring characers developed in his performance art, welcome to the world of John-Paul Gibbs where captain Cat and the Dead Jimmys, Boxhead, The Brat in a rabbit hat, Mudonna, Sergeant Snout and a host of supporting characters are commited to canvas.  A place where painting meets cabaret, cartoon clashes with reality, all underpinned with a healthy dose of the surreal, often darkly comic and sometimes downright macabre.  Using a variety of techniques painting, printing, photographic montage, cut and paste and illustration to achieve his singular vision.  Ladies and Gentlemen please step inside and experience the holy and unholy netherworld of J-P Gibbs

Mick Hockney

After finishing an MA in Fine Art at Manchester I worked in theatre (Welsh National Opera), television (Spitting Image) and film (Aardman Animations).

The graphic work of Posada, the Mexican festival of the Day of the Dead, tattoo art, aspects of street art, Warhol and punk, comic books and Pop art, woodcuts, medieval gothic and the processes of cut and paste and sampling, are some of the visual influences and modes of operating that inform my work.

For this exhibition I will be showing a series of clockfaces and a group of monoprints.
