CALL FOR EXHIBITION SUBMISSIONS
















204 is pleased to invite artists from all disciplines to make an exhibition  proposal  for November 2008.  We are looking for coherent bodies of work, either from single artists or artists working collaboratively. The selected artist/s will be given sole use of the space (roughly 32 meters squared) for the duration of the show.  The artist will be permitted to have a preview at a time of their choice and will be given a press and publicity list for their use to promote their show.  They will also be allocated a page on the 204 website to present their related work for publicity now and in the future.    
















Show Duration and dates

The show will run for two weeks from Sat 1st Nov to Sat 15th  Nov 2008.   The artist is responsible for invigilating their own show. For opening times please see artist obligations. The arrangements include the possibility of a  preview evening and the opportunity for the selected artist/s to talk about their practice and the artistic process involved in the work shown.

Submission Requirements: 204 ’08 is open to visual artists of all disciplines.

All written aspects of the submission must be supplied in hard copy on A4 paper. 

Please send

1. 150 -300 words that best describes your practice.

2.  5-10 images of your current work generally - these can be photographic prints, good quality photocopies or images on CD/DVD (All material submitted on CD/DVDs must be formatted for Mac and PC - images should be in  jpeg format no bigger than 2 mb per image for stills ,  moving images should be short bites, no longer than 5 minutes of material, and in a quick time format. No large large files will be opened. )

The panel will not accept a website as sole evidence of work but may view websites for additional material.

Sorry but submission material cannot be returned.

3. The written Proposal of approx  500 words should be a detailed outline  and should focus on the specific work that you are proposing for the exhibition at 204 .  You may include some sketches. plans or photos, but again please be aware that submitted material cannot be returned. ( good photocopies of sketches  are acceptable)

4. A brief CV. Please make sure that your full contact details are shown, including a phone number and e-mail address.

Submission payment

The fee is £6 per proposal, payable at the time of your submission.

Open Submission does not guarantee inclusion and the decision of the panel is final.

Submission material can not be returned so please do not send any originals.

All fees are non refundable.

Conditions of Entry

204 - Nov 08 is open to all visual artists, whether filmmakers, painters, photographers, installation artists, ceramicists, etc

It is not necessary for artists to have a BS postcode, however all successful applicants are responsible for installation and de-installation on the dates stated.  

All work must be the artists’ own work

Obligations of successful artist

  • The successful applicant  must be willing to discuss their creative process  and be filmed for the 204 archive. 

·   The artist  will be expected to generate and send out a press release, by e mail,  to local and national organisations. They will be provided with a short press list as guidance.

 

·      The artist is advised to create an e-invite for their use and to enable 204 to send it out to their list.

 

Those artists whose works are selected for exhibition accept and agree that all works in the exhibition may be photographed and/or reproduced for the press, publicity, promotion and advertising of 204 at the time and in the future.

 

The successful applicant/s are responsible for the transportation of their work to and from the exhibition venue.  They are expected to be self sufficient installing their work on the 30th October and de-install and remove all work from the premises by  5pm 17th Nov, The artist/s must provide all necessary fittings/ fixings for the exhibition, removing these and making good any holes in the wall . They will be expected to clean up and tidy the show space as necessary.

 

We would encourage artists to insure their work against loss /damage. As 204 cannot accept any responsibility for the loss /damage or theft of work

The successful artist/s are responsible for all show invigilation .  It is preferable that the artist is present at the show at certain times even if they organize others to invigilate their show for them, Their presence  encourages interest in the work and the show overall.  It is the choice of the artist/s how many days and hours the show is open, with a minimum of 36 hours overall and on condition that those hours are publicized and adhered to. It is advisable to plan to be open all day on Saturdays as this is when the street outside is busiest.

If artists are unable to attend for the de-installation and remove date they MUST organize someone else to collect their work for them.

 

Any work left at the gallery after the 16th Nov 2008 will be disposed of and any costs incurred by 204 will be reclaimed from the artist.

 

Sale of Work. –  (The work of the artist does not have to be for sale.)

A commission of 20% will be levied on any works sold during the show, or as a result of the show. This money will then go towards the up-keep of  204 )

(Payments will be made to the artist after the show has finished and all cheques have been cleared)

 

Obligations of 204

The successful artist will be informed no later than the 1st October 2008.  If you have not heard by this date please assume you have been unsuccessful this time.

204 will

  • Allocate the successful artist the sole use of the space for the duration of the show.
  • Provide a press list to assist the artist to publicize the show
  • Send out the artists’ e invite to the 204 mailing list
  • Ensure show space is clean and tidy before the install of the show.

204 will not be responsible for the installing of the show however someone will be around to answer questions and provide a ladder if needed.

Terms and Conditions

All Exhibitors must abide by the terms and conditions of the show.

All applicants must adhere to the deadlines listed

All payments must be paid at the time of the application

Submission fees are non –returnable
